I can help you do the same. There is no issue too big or too small that we can't work through together.

I am always available to speak to clients in between session and if I am busy in clinic I will let them know as soon as I am available.

I am supportive, honest and clear in my approach with my clients.

I teach clients self-hypnosis, which is an empowering tool that can be used away from the therapy sessions, but also allows the individual to feel in control and calm during the therapy sessions.

How many sessions?

In terms of number of sessions, most clients usually need 3-5 sessions about 1 week apart. You can pay as you go.

Investing in your health and wellbeing is the best investment you will ever make. Therapy truly brings great rewards and having someone to talk to makes all the difference.

What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy allows positive suggestions to inspire your imagination, so that your imagination can in turn stimulate responses.

Hypnotherapy is a means of experiencing certain helpful ideas at a level profound enough to directly influence our emotions and behaviour. Hypnotherapy aims to work on any issues while in a relaxed and calm state which allows us to work at a deeper layer and access our subconscious. While attention is so focused in this state, anything going on around you is temporarily blocked or ignored. Therefore, in this naturally occurring state, you may focus your attention on specific thoughts or tasks.

It is thought that the subconscious accounts for approximately 90% of the brain’s capacity and it is here we store our emotions. It is responsible for our reactions, interpretations and general behaviour. The most important role that the subconscious plays is an automatic function that controls our breathing, the circulation of blood around our bodies and the repair of damaged tissue i.e. the healing process.

Hypnosis is definitely not a state of sleep or unconsciousness.  You are aware of everything that happening and are in complete control at all times- you will be taught self hypnosis. It is essentially like feeling you are daydreaming or like that feeling just before you fall asleep at night.

Psychological and emotional problems can be seen as the result of negative thinking, whereas hypnotherapy aims to encourage ("suggest") positive ideas which lead to improvement. Therapy will truly change your life.

  • Is Hypnotherapy an effective way to quit smoking?
Yes, Hypnotherapy is regularly promoted by scientific studies to be one of the most effective methods for stopping smoking for good.
  • What happens to your body when you quit smoking?
Your body will begin to heal itself shortly after you quit, and the sooner you give up smoking, the greater the benefit is to your health. After 20 minutes Check your pulse rate, it will already be starting to return to normal. After 8 hours Your oxygen levels are recovering, and the harmful carbon monoxide level in your blood will have reduced by half. After 48 hours All carbon monoxide is flushed out. Your lungs are clearing out mucus and your senses of taste and smell are improving. After 72 hours If you notice that breathing feels easier, it's because your bronchial tubes have started to relax. Also your energy will be increasing. After 2 to 12 weeks Blood will be pumping through to your heart and muscles much better because your circulation will have improved. After 3 to 9 months Any coughs, wheezing or breathing problems will be improving as your lung function increases by up to 10%. After 1 year Great news! Your risk of heart attack will have halved compared with a smoker's. After 10 years More great news! Your risk of death from lung cancer will have halved compared with a smoker's.
  • Is stopping smoking as effective as antidepressants?
Yes, people with mental health problems are likely to feel much calmer and more positive, and have a better quality of life, after giving up smoking. Evidence suggests the beneficial effect of stopping smoking on symptoms of anxiety and depression can equal that of taking antidepressants.
  • Why it feels like smoking helps us relax
Smoking cigarettes interferes with certain chemicals in the brain. When smokers haven't had a cigarette for a while, the craving for another one makes them feel irritable and anxious. These feelings can be temporarily relieved when they light up a cigarette. So smokers associate the improved mood with smoking. In fact, it's the effects of smoking itself that's likely to have caused the anxiety in the first place. Cutting out smoking does improve mood and reduces anxiety. Also know as the nicotine trick!
  • Are there any mental health benefits from quitting smoking?
Stopping smoking not only improves your physical health but also is proven to boost your mental health and well being. Quitting can improve mood, and help relieve stress, anxiety and depression.

  • What happens in hypnosis?
Firstly, disregard anything you think you know about hypnotherapy and hypnosis based on stage shows. Hypnotherapy is a scientific method that has been used for over 5000 years and uses evidence based methodologies to help clients work through their issues and struggles. Research suggests there are several stages of hypnosis. The initial relaxation element of hypnotherapy starts by dampening down the activity of the frontal cortex. Limiting the effectiveness of this area of the brain, central to attention, planning, and making decisions, increases activity in other areas engaged in filtering and integrating information. We become more open to information, more suggestible to positive suggestions, and capable of creating more intense sensations in our minds (Thomson, 2019). A fascinating study in 2006 found that the brains of hypnotized individuals who were asked to imagine pleasant memories responded as if the experiences were real. The parts of the brain involved in movement and sensation became more active (Faymonville, Boly, & Laureys, 2006).
  • What exactly is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive behavioural therapy focuses on changing the automatic negative thoughts that can contribute to and worsen emotional difficulties, depression, and anxiety. These spontaneous negative thoughts have a detrimental influence on mood. Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy aims to provide you with the tools to develop more positive thoughts and positive coping skills while simply in a more relaxed and focused headspace. As a Clinical Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist I work with you to break down your overwhelming problems into smaller more manageable problems that we can work through together. I provide you with the tools and techniques to develop healthy coping mechanisms and begin to live a happy life again.
  • Is Hypnosis Safe
Yes. You are completely in control at all times. Hypnotherapy is a form of talking therapy that uses hypnosis to really get to the root cause of your issues while giving you tools and techniques to move forward in your life. Providing you with the coping skills that you need in daily life or with a particular issue.
  • Is there evidence that hypnosis works?
Yes, While there are lots of of examples in the scientific literature showing the effectiveness and of clinical hypnosis, a study published in the journal Gut is noteworthy. The study involved 204 people suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Treatment consisted of 12 weekly sessions of hypnosis (lasting about one hour each). Fifty-eight percent of the men and 75 percent of the women reported significant symptom relief immediately aftertreatment and more than 80% of those remained that way up to six years later. Less than 10 percent of the participants tried other treatments after hypnotherapy. (Gut, November 2003).
  • Why should I choose you as my therapist?
Firstly, I am a fully certified Clinical Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist and I adhere to the professional standards as set by the GHR. It is important that any therapist you work with is regulated by some form of professional standards body and please do ensure they are fully certified. It is also important that they are committed to Continued Professional Development and seeking to understand and keep up to date with the latest research evidence, which is something I am passionate about. I truly care about every single client I work with and stay in contact with you for as long as you want. I am always here for you from our very first session and beyond. I offer a free 20 minute consultation so you really have nothing to lose by having an initial conversation and ask any questions you may have.
  • Am I asleep in hypnosis and can I get stuck in hypnosis?
You are NOT asleep when in hypnosis and you certainly can NOT get stuck in hypnosis. Hypnotherapy uses naturally occurring states and it is essentially the same state as when you are in a day dream. It is a safe natural method and you are in complete control the whole time.
  • Will Hypnotherapy Help Me Quit Smoking
YES! ”The use of hypnosis in stop smoking therapy is the most effective help available to those who are addicted to smoking.” (British Medical Association) For more information on the benefits of using hypnotherapy visit https://www.hayleystevens.co.uk/stop-smoking
